rubber foam sofa

Friday, May 1, 2009

One of two design projects i started off today.
A rubber foam sofa - it's made of rubber foam.
I experimented with different colours (more intense ones)
but in the end went back to a featureless grey.

I hope you like the design. Please give feedback if you do.

creative concept, altough the material would probably deteriorate very fast in reality; people sitting down and rubbing around, picking on the little pyramids - they'd rip off I think.

If you chose leather, it would be too expensive to make all the details; the right choice might be a material that can be filled in a form and harden and at the same time combine the stability and surface feel of hard plastic and the softness and flexibility of rubber.

In Vienna in the Museumsquartier they have yellow benches, very simplistic design, which have a surface like that. For a sofa, they would be too hard, so the pyramids might make sense as a surface but must be supported by cotton/feathers/springs inside to offer comfort for the sitter.
